Makena provides an unusual hiking and snorkeling experience. Although Maui boasts over 30 miles of fabulous white sandy beaches. Of course we believe Kamaole I is the best, located just across the lawn from your vacation suite at Dolphins Point Maui!
What makes a morning in Makena special is a secret snorkeling spot! While most visitors are quite happy to go to La Perouse Bay in Makena, when you stay with us, we'll give you directions to the "aquarium". Water trickling through the lava meets the ocean here in a secluded and protected cove. This makes the water more clear and much warmer - it's like snorkeling in a bathtub! There are tons of fish here and its a great hike (about 1 mile) on a good footpath across the lava flow. Wear sneakers or hiking boots (as the lava is sharp and unforgiving); pack light, but be sure to bring plenty of drinking water.
